I love the new search features of Windows 8 and how fast you can find and locate your files on your PC. However network shares normally are not indexed and in most companies store their data on network shares. The advantage of a good Full Text Search Function is to help you find files faster. The described method integrates directly with Windows 7 and Windows 8 Libraries.

If you build large pages with MODX, you eventually encounter slow page load times after you change a template page or any other page. Pages with hundreds of subpages seem to load very slowly, because the cache has to be recreated for the affected pages. I have checked a couple of plugins that are available for MODX but none did the job easy without changing the documents, snippet calls or the individual caching settings. On the initial page load (first time load after refresh / update), it takes maybe 3-5 seconds untill it is parsed and displayed. When I hit the same page the second time, it takes less than half a second. But I don’t have time to manually click through the entire page to make sure all the pages are cached again.

If your Windows 8 computer does not start and you need to reset drivers and therefore boot into Safe Mode you are supposed to press Shift + F8 during startup. Due to the fact that modern PCs are often too fast to register such key strokes it got extremely hard to boot up in Safe Mode.

There are many tutorials that show how to enable Safe Mode out of the running Windows. But if you can’t access Windows because it already crashed during the boot, you also cannot update the boot options.

I was looking for a method to automate Windows 8 client deployment on Azure. Important seems that you Sysprep the image only when it’s already running in Azure. My attempts to Sysprep the image locally all failed. I suppose that when booting up again the VM was somewhere stuck at the mini-setup of Windows.

The uploaded VHD disk is now available in the console of Windows Azure. Make a manual configuration and create a new virtual machine. Create this machine with the setting from gallery.

There are numerous tutorials available about how to boot up a Windows 8 client in Hyper-V Manger, so I only give minimal information. This step is needed to have Windows 8 running in Azure.

Bei Windows 7 kommt beim Starten von Dateien auf Netzlaufwerken eine Sicherheitswarnung. „Der Herausgeber konnte nicht verifiziert werden. Möchten Sie diese Software ausführen?“
